The Cape Point Nature Reserve is such an ideal retreat, but it is also filled with history. This was why the lighthouse was built in the 1800’s. You can still see shipwrecks along the coastline from some of the hiking trails in the reserve.
The Flying Dutchman takes its name from the local legend of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship. The line runs from a lower station at the Cape Point car park, up against an incline through dense fynbos to the upper lighthouse.
