We are asked virtually each and every day which game reserve is the best in South Africa, and each and every time we have the same answer, Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve of course. Why then do we say this well its quite easy should one compare the size of Hluhluwe Umfolozi versus the Kruger National Park or maybe Addo Elephant Park it just makes for easier travelling and with such a variety of wild life species one will be amazed at what one may encounter while out on a safari.
Kruger National Park is enormous and one definitely needs more than a day to see various wildlife, don’t get me wrong we have encountered numerous clients that have seen the Big 5 in a mornings game drive but then so too have clients that where in the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve. It comes down to migratory patterns of the various animals within the Kruger Park. They migrate to various areas and this is what makes it quite difficult to see the big 5 sometimes, then Addo too is large but with limited wildlife and varying vegetation it may be a bit difficult. Whereas the Hluhluwe Umfolozi has two sides the northern section the Hluhluwe side and the southern side the Umfolozi they can be described as two entirely different parks when it comes to vegetation and landscape and it is this that makes it so incredible. The northern section the Hluhluwe side is more hilly and has magnificent vantage points from where to witness some amazing wildlife. The the Umfolozi side has more open grasslands and access to water sources a must while out on safari. The Umfolozi the larger of the two also offers one more roads and hides from where one can go on safari.
Hluhluwe Umfolozi remains an incredible game reserve.
Our latest sightings while out over the weekend included the Big 4 with numerous sightings of Wild Dogs again. Enjoy the bush and keep on tracking
