Great Experience

We decided to come to South Africa for a short visit and wanted to experience a safari ideally near Durban. So after reading the trip advisor reviews decided to book the 4 night safari which included hippos, 'big 5', half day wetlands, night safari, cat rehab and cultural experience. These were booked with Heritage who provided transport as well as really informative and friendly guides. We had David for both the big 5 and the half day wetlands. He was really nice, patient and by the end he was a friend rather than a guide who pointed out animals. We managed to see buffalo, rhino and elephant as well as lots of different antelope species and other game. Unfortunately the cats did not want to play. Thanks for the picnics, with some of the nicest bar b qued food and the wine on the half day tour was a bonus. We would also recommend the cultural tour - learnt so much about the Zulu culture and enjoyed (and participated in) the incredible dancing. If you are thinking about going to Kruger or the smaller intimate game tours offered by Heritage, don't think just book Heritage. You will not be disappointed.

Top Safari Tips prior to departing on your next safari.

  • Don't buy new shoes without walking them in, nothing can be more uncomfortable that shoes that have not yet been walked in, also when buying shoes buy ones that have thick rubber soles as the South African thorns are serious.
  • Don't drink water unless it is from a sealed bottle, water is a serious problem in Africa.
  • Camera's and Bags, dust is a problem and no matter what you do it will surely be somewhere. Pack some ziplock bags and ensure that your lenses are sealed at all times nothing can be worse than capturing that amazing shot with grains of sand or dust in the photo
  • Drymac, always take a windproof rain jacket along on any safari no matter what, it can easily rain without much warning in Africa, don't forget those bags for your camera.
  • Clothing, light weight and please try and stay away from brightly coloured clothing when going out on safari.

If I could rate higher than excellent, I would

These tours were nothing short of phenomenal! Our guides were so knowledgeable, friendly, and hospitable. We went on the hippo river tour, the daytime safari tour and the night safari tour. All three were awesome, and we were able to get.so many wonderful pictures of of the wildlife. Our guide Johnathan on the daytime safari was the best!! You could tell how passionate he was about what he did and that made our day all the better! I would absolutely go back and do this tour again. I can't say enough great things about Heritage.

Best thing to do in South Africa

With my wife, we spent four days in St. Lucia as part of our Honeymoon last year. We did all the tours with Heritage and the experience was incredible: the landscapes, guides and everything was perfect. They prepared a great surprise for our last day, including another safari, just for us, as a gift for our wedding. In few words, the best thing to do in South Africa.
