Hippo & Croc Boat Safaris St Lucia South Africa
Boat Safaris on Lake St Lucia
Heritage Tours & Safaris offers daily departing Boat Safaris on the largest Estuary in Africa, the St Lucia Estuary these two hour outings offer you an incredible chance to witness the resident Hippo’s approx. 800 and Nile Crocodiles approx. 1200 not to mention the abundance of birdlife found in the area.
As we slowly approach the summer months once again one can see the buzzing of the weavers hard at work once again for the annual nest inspections. The water levels in the system are currently a bit lower than previous years due to lower rainfall. However the impact on the resident wildlife has been slim. The Hippo’s still being witnessed on the banks during the cooler months will soon once again be a thing of the past as we slowly get back to summer conditions. It’s a magnificent time of the year as numerous bird species once again return to the area sightings of the first Yellow Billed Kites has already been made.
Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom
It was such a treat for Heritage Tours & Safaris to host the Tourism Minister aboard our boat on the St Lucia Estuary during the annual SAACI Conference held in St Lucia. The trip highlighted the wildlife found along the banks and within the estuary. The conference was an absolute success and once again provided all members of the conference to enjoy the mere beauty that the area has to offer.

Wild Dogs This Morning
This morning the rangers where fortunate to witness Wild Dogs chasing Impalla in the lower Umfolozi section of the Reserve. Its been an adventure each and every day while out in the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve, much rain is still needed as this season has really been a dry one. This however contributes to all watering holes and remaining water sources within the reserve to be a hot spot. Herds of Elephants and Buffalo have been a super treat each day this week as well. Our top tip for the remainder of the month would be to travel to the lower reaches of the Umfolozi as sightings have been truly magnificent.
