Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve lies within the heart of KwaZulu Natal and is the golden gem of the province. Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve and surrounding areas offers a wide variety of Accommodation and Safari options. One can make the needed reservations and bookings on this website. Accessing the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve from Durban take the N2 northbound and travel aprox 250km take the Hluhluwe turn off and continue for an  additional 13km to the Memorial gate.

Hluhluwe Reservations and Bookings Accommodation

Numerous styles of Accommodation can be found within the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Reserve namely Hilltop Camp in the Hluhluwe side and Mpilla Camp in the Umfolozi side. These two accommodations are the main accommodations and other smaller lodges and tented camps are also available within the reserve. Hluhluwe Reservations and Bookings need to be made well in advance due to popularity this is especially the case in high season which occurs during the Holidays and tourist season they are namely:

December – High season

March – school holidays mid season

June-July- school holidays mid season

August to November high season

Hilltop offers a restaurant, convenience store, fuel bowser and some unique accommodation set on a hilltop one has some splendid views of the surrounding area. This accommodation is the most popular and once again bookings or reservations need to be made well in advance. Mpilla Camp also set on a hillside offers fuel bowser, tented and rondavel accommodation,  small convenience store and picnic area. The Umfolozi section is larger than that of the Hluhluwe side sightings are better due to you being able to get closer to water sources and more access roads are also available.

Hluhluwe Safari Reservations and Bookings

Daily departing safari’s why not join in on a safari if you are not doing a self drive safari, these organised safaris offer you the very best as the rangers are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about this reserve. Better yet sit back and enjoy the amazing scenery while your guide gets you to the best spots within the reserve. Safaris depart daily from both gates namely the Merorial gate and Nyalazi gate. Departures start from as early as 6:00am this include full catering and one has the added option of either a full day safari or half day safari depending on how much time you have.

Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve is a 96000 hectare reserve with the Big 5, Cheetah, Wild Dogs and much much more to see while in the reserve. The reserve has numerous loop roads, hides and picnic areas to enjoy. Please note that this is a wild reserve and one has to take care when getting out of ones vehicle a the various picnic areas and hides. Please do adhere to all of the rules and regulation’s in the reserve. The speed limit is 40km/h please do not speed.
