I had originally contacted Heritage about creating a custom schedule based on our 3 and a half days in St Lucia. Bev responded with all possible options and was very helpful in coming back to me (numerous times) to create the perfect schedule for me. The game drive, night drive, drive to Cape Vidal and boat cruise were all a fantastic experience. Our guides included Jonathan, David and Theo. All were extremely knowledgeable with great personalities and very happy to answer questions. I couldn’t believe when our guide spotted a chameleon attached to a piece of grass on the night drive! We were VERY pleasantly surprised, every one we dealt with was friendly, attentive, and informative. Mandy was a pleasure to work with as we setup our trip, very helpful. Ricky, who picked us up in Durban and brought us to our lodge in St. Lucia, was super friendly and provided us with a ton of great conversation and information about the areas we were passing through, as well as the areas we were yet to see. David took us on a full day safari drive and brought us to Cape Vidal, he was very friendly and helpful and did an amazing job at spotting animals and sharing lots of information about them. He would setup nice lunches and coffee/tea breaks for us. We saw buffalo, elephant, lions, white rhinos, a black rhino, and many wildabeast, impala, kudu, and different types of antelope. I can’t remember the name of our guide for our night safari, but he was top notch as well and we saw a leopard hunting some water buck during our night drive! incredible. Brian was also fantastic and drove us to the Cheetah sanctuary and took us to the Zulu cultural center. We had a such an amazing trip, in large part due to the wonderful people who showed us such wonderful places. I cannot express enough our satisfaction with Heritage Tours and those who spent their days in the bush with us! But having missed the boat cruise and no way of getting back to Durban I extended my stay by a day. I called Mandy and asked them to give me a preferential rate to a bus that was already travelling to Durban. It was all sorted within a few minutes and I got to spend an extra day at Umilio lodge. The responsiveness of the folks is terrific 1. The guides were excellent. I especially liked Theo who did a great job and shared everything about his life and culture 2. The hippo cruise was top class and was done by the best person who explained a lot about the hippos. 3. We spent too much time at Cape Vidal route that we missed the low tide for snorkeling and had to forego that. Wish the guide Theo had better tracked the time and at least mentioned to us that we were in risk of missing it and given the tourists an option to see if they wanted to still go about things slowly or hurry on the route (kindly note this for subsequent tours). Having said this we never felt harried but always given time to take photos etc 4. Night cruise was freezing cold. I think they can provide mufflers for the head in addition to blankets. Would have been better during winter along with gloves. It was my first experience of South Africa and my first ever Safari. Our booking was handled by Mandy, who was so helpful with my zillions of questions, and she did an absolutely great job. Friendly, approachable and efficient. The accommodation associated with our booking, Umlilo Lodge was also fantastic. A really cute place to stay, the owners were so friendly, cooked us an absolute treat of a braii, and the babotti was to die for 😉 Now, our safari was extraordinary. We had different guides for each section, which worked so well. All had their own experiences and areas of expertise to share. One guide in particular, Rick, was an absolute gem. His passion and knowledge of the animals and their surroundings was truly impressive. He really made our trip. Great personality and great spirit. I would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone looking for a safari adventure. Fantastic value for money, and I can’t reiterate enough how great all of the staff were in association with our booking. I’m already looking to see what other friends I can persuade to go back with me!!
