Heritage Tours & Safaris would like to invite you on a Durban Day Tour to Hluhluwe Umfolozi and St Lucia. This day tour includes a Big 5 Safari to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve on a Half day safari and then a magnificent Boat Tour on the St Lucia Estuary in the afternoon.
Departing daily from Durban or the surrounding area we will pick you up and transfer you to the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve. Once at the reserve you will be transferred over to a Open Game Drive Safari Vehicle and once the ranger has finished his or her introduction you are off on a safari. There is no better way of experiencing a safari tour than by open game drive vehicle, with incredible views and a knowledgeable ranger you are sure to have some delightful sightings.
The Hluhluwe Umfolozi reserve remains the gem of Zululand, not only is it the oldest but home to the Big 5, Cheetah and Wild Dogs to mention but just the larger of the wildlife in the reserve. This half day tour safari includes conservation levies, bush breakfast and refreshments. It’s a day of winding bush roads, loop roads and hides. Some amazing background information of days when King Shaka used the Umfolozi as his personal hunting grounds and the implementation of safe the Rhino campaign. The reserve has incredible information and history not to mention the wildlife and scenery that will make for an incredible day’s tour.
On completion of the half day tour we will then transfer you to St Lucia, South Africa’s very first world heritage site for a Boat Safari on the estuary the largest in Africa and home to hundreds of Hippo and Nile Crocodiles not to mention the abundance of bird life that may be witnessed on the banks of the estuary. This 2 hour journey showcases the beauty and magnificence of a world heritage site. Once again your skipper/guide will ensure some splendid sightings.

Hluhluwe Umfolozi is a 96000 hectare reserve with the Big 5, previously the reserve was split is to separate parks the northern section the Hluhluwe and the southern section the Umfolozi however one can now enjoy access from either of the gates and enjoy both sides of the reserve while entering either. Hluhluwe Umfolozi can easily compete with Kruger National Park as it is incredibly scenic with rolling hills and abundance of wildlife. Smaller in size also means that can navigate the reserve easily and should one want to access both sides or more enjoy both reserves one would need at least 2 days to explore all roads and hides.
